Tips for A/C Efficiency

When it comes to keeping our homes cool, it can be frustrating at times to keep the temperature balanced throughout. Sometimes we notice one floor is too cold, or the room at the far end of the house is noticeably warmer than a majority of the rest of the home. Here are a few tips and tricks you can use to help keep cool and comfortable, without over-working your system.

  • Window coverings: keeping sunlight out will help with keeping areas cooler
  • Keep doors inside the house open, when bedroom and bathroom doors are closed, there is less ability for the air to circulate throughout the home

Note: We do recognize that for fire safety, closing interior doors is ideal- so making sure to have your doors closed at night is best.

  • Operate your system fan, either on circulate or turned on all the time. The more the fan runs, the more balanced temperatures will be throughout the home
  • Keep your filter clean; the dirtier the filter, the harder the system has to operate in order to blow air throughout the home
  • Keep your A/C on in the hot months. Yes, even when you go on vacation. Turning the cooling up a few degrees before you leave is good idea if you can’t remotely access your thermostat. When the cooling is turned off, it allows the house to get significantly hotter than what we normally set our temps for. If you plan to lower the temperature by more than 5°F when you arrive home, your system will seem like it’s working very slowly, or not working well altogether
